Outside of propagating elders from your local landscape, I recommend ordering cuttings/plants from Knock Knock Farm in Belgrade, Maine; plant stock from Norm's Farm or Double A Vineyards in upstate NY, Twisted Tree Farm, PitsponeFarm.com or any other nursery you find that carries 'Nova,' 'Adams,' 'York,' 'Goodbarn' cultivars. These are the cultivars that are known to thrive in our zone. I ordered from Double A Vineyard and was very pleased with the two-year old well-developed bare root stock. Order in the early fall to ensure they don't run out. They will ship in the spring according to your zone. Please also consider growing Aronia 'Viking,' the other highly prized native medicinal berry in our region. I consider Mother Elder the queen and Aronia the king of medicinal berries in the Northern Hemisphere. Together, they are the royal couple!
